    Job Brief

This is a tax focused role sitting in the corporate centre of a large privately owned group, reporting directly to the CFO. The tax work comes first, covering compliance across a substantial portfolio of entities and working alongside a Big Four adviser, with group financial accounting and reporting making up the rest of the role. It suits someone from a corporate or group tax background who wants to broaden into financial accounting, or a financial accountant with genuine tax depth.

    About Our Client

Our client is a large privately owned Australian group operating across heavy industry, with a portfolio spanning operating businesses, investments and a range of corporate entities. The corporate finance function is being built out, and this role sits alongside the CFO with visibility across the whole group rather than inside any one business. It is a grounded, practical environment where people are trusted to own their work.

    Responsibilities

    • Own the tax compliance cycle across a portfolio of corporate and investment entities, covering income tax, BAS, GST and FBT
    • Review and interrogate work prepared by the external tax adviser, raising issues and working them through with the CFO
    • Prepare tax effect accounting entries and tax disclosures for the group financial reports
    • Keep the group across its tax obligations as a significant global entity, and support the broader compliance framework
    • Prepare statutory financial statements end to end under Australian Accounting Standards
    • Prepare management accounts, board reporting and supporting commercial analysis
    • Lead budgeting, forecasting and variance analysis across the assigned entities
    • Coordinate audit requirements and keep the entities audit ready year round
    • Strengthen financial controls and reporting processes as the group continues to grow
    • Partner with the CFO and senior stakeholders across the group, providing accurate information and clear commentary
    Requirements
    • CA or CPA qualified
    • Experience across multi entity structures, or ownership of a finance function in a family office, private group or SME environment
    • Strong Australian tax compliance experience, including income tax, BAS and FBT
    • Proven experience working with external tac advisers
    • Experience preparing statutory financial statements under Australian Accounting Standards
    • Comfortable working in a lean environment, owning processes end to end with no direct reports
    • Genuinely open to relocating to North-West Tasmania

    What's on Offer

A standalone role reporting directly to the CFO, with visibility across the entire group
A tax heavy brief in a complex private group structure, working alongside a Big Four adviser
A lower cost of living and a genuine lifestyle change for someone looking to move out of a capital city
