Financial Controller – Large, Complex NFP | $140k + Super + Bonus | Eastern Suburbs

I’m partnering with a well-established, community-focused Not-For-Profit seeking a hands-on Financial Controller to step into a critical role overseeing end-to-end finance for a diverse and growing organisation. The Role

Reporting to the Executive Director and Treasurer, you’ll lead a small finance team (two accountants) and take ownership of all financial operations across multiple entities, charities and foundations. It’s a very hands-on, detailed accounting role with variety across financial management, compliance, reporting, budgeting and stakeholder engagement.

The environment is complex — intercompany transactions, multiple DGR funds, a school, grants, payroll and investment oversight. You’ll manage monthly close, cash flow, reconciliations, budget to actuals, and ensure accuracy across all ledgers. Quarterly Board packs, annual budgeting and the annual audit also fall under your remit.

Key Areas

  • Month-end close, reconciliations, adjustments & reporting
  • Quarterly board reporting & finance committee support
  • Annual budgeting, audit preparation & year-end
  • Cash flow forecasting and oversight of investments
  • Payroll (monthly & fortnightly), grants, compliance & regulatory filings
  • Managing internal controls across multiple entities
  • Leading, mentoring and supporting two accountants
  • Working closely with senior leadership, committees and external advisors

What They’re Looking For

  • Strong financial accounting fundamentals — accurate, detailed, disciplined
  • CA/CPA (or equivalent) with 5+ years in a senior finance role
  • Experience in NFP, multi-entity environments or complex operations a must
  • Someone steady, hands-on, practical and comfortable owning all finance functions
  • Strong people skills, able to work closely with leadership and community stakeholders
  • Xero experience highly regarded
