Women in Finance Charity Network Drinks

by Hazel M Bennett

Last Thursday night we were proud to support the Women in Finance Charity Network Drinks to help raise funds for Tour de Cure. The night consisted of a wine tasting by Cellarmasters personal wine advisor, Elliott Weston, followed by a panel discussion focusing on the topic of “Purpose, Perspective and Balance”.

The discussion was facilitated by Kate Beattie, Finance Director, Endeavour Drinks with a panel of some of Australia’s most successful female Finance executives.  The panel consisted of:
  • Alison Harrop, CFO, Dexus
  • Louise Higgins, former Chief Financial and Strategy Office, ABC
  • Emma Burke, GM Commercial Finance, Stockland.
These incredible women spoke about their lives and shared tips on “trying” to achieve work/life balance, and the best career advice they’ve received. The ladies were extremely open and honest in discussing the challenges and personal sacrifices involved with climbing the corporate ladder including:
  • Staying engaged in work and your career when you have babies and small children.
  • Putting your career in perspective is really important. Life is a lot bigger than work. When your kids are sick, or they have an athletics carnival or a speech night—these things are important and you need to make the time.
  • Mental health is crucial. Discover what makes you feel relaxed and happy, and make time for that thing in your everyday life.
  • Leaders need to step up and lead by example. They need to show their teams that having perspective and balance is ok.
We would like to thanks all those who supported this event to help raise funds to fight cancer and congratulate our lucky door prize winner, Tracy Pereira.  A huge thanks to this panel of inspirational women for their insights and time. They were genuine and open with the group and showed us how having real purpose and perspective is about your mindset, your attitude, your leadership.
